Bane of the Three Highs

Staying at home to fight the pandemic these days, I found a type of green roselle tea that the owner of a flower and herbal tea shop gave me to try before, which is quite rare in Hong Kong. Green roselle is known as the "three-high-reducing flower" and is produced in the cold climate of Tibet. Its growth period is very short, only about 40 days, making it a unique and precious plant in Tibet.

"Three highs" refers to high blood sugar, high blood pressure, and high blood lipids, which are chronic diseases. This new coronavirus is particularly prone to causing severe symptoms or even death in patients with chronic diseases and the elderly. According to the Department of Health's earlier population health survey, half of Hong Kong adults are overweight or obese, and the proportion of those suffering from one or more of the three highs is as high as 60%, a situation that cannot be ignored.

Diabetes is a major enemy of the heart, directly increasing the risk of cerebrovascular disease, heart disease, foot gangrene, retinopathy, kidney disease, and nervous system disorders. The natural ingredients in green roselle can promote an increase in insulin in the body and significantly lower blood sugar. Diabetes is a chronic disease caused by the body's lack of insulin, reduced response to insulin, or both, leading to elevated blood sugar levels.

Green roselle also contains abundant linoleic acid, a fatty acid that the human body cannot produce, which can dilute blood concentration, regulate blood pressure, and improve immune system function. In addition, its rich alpha-linolenic acid can effectively lower blood lipids.

To combat the "three highs," in addition to controlling diet and exercising more, you can also prepare five green roselle flowers, rinse them with water, and steep them in hot water for five minutes before drinking. They can be re-steeped about three times. Green roselle has a bitter taste, a slightly cold nature, and acts on the kidney meridian. Note: It is not suitable for those with weak constitutions and pregnant women.
