Nighttime Antiperspirant

A few days ago, I replaced the air conditioner in my bedroom, and I never imagined it would be so hot that I would wake up in a sweat in the middle of the night. Even after setting it to 17 degrees Celsius, it only blew air. What bad luck! I mentioned it to a friend and found out that many people, especially postpartum mothers, also sweat easily, even waking up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat.

In the hot summer weather, sweating is perfectly normal, but abnormal sweating during sleep that stops upon waking should not be ignored. This is a sub-health symptom called "night sweats." People who experience night sweats often have a yin deficiency or qi deficiency constitution, which leads to an imbalance of yin and yang in the body. They may also experience flushed cheeks and body heat in the afternoon, along with a dry mouth and tongue. For those with internal heat due to yin deficiency, the body cannot retain fluids, causing excessive sweating.

If you experience this, you can try brewing a tea with two smoked plums (Wumei), three slices of astragalus root (Huangqi), and five red dates. This tea can nourish yin and replenish qi, reducing night sweats. Smoked plums are neutral in nature, sour and astringent in taste, and affect the spleen, lungs, and intestines. They can promote fluid production, quench thirst, astringe the lungs to stop coughs, reduce sweating, and stop diarrhea. "Ben Jing Feng Yuan" (a classic of materia medica) once recorded: "Smoked plums are astringent and sour, beneficial for fluids and appetizing, able to astringe the lungs and intestines, stop vomiting and sweating, calm asthma, and expel roundworms." Astragalus root is warm in nature and can enhance physical fitness, boost immunity, and replenish qi and raise yang, making it especially good for those prone to colds and with weak constitutions. Red dates are warm in nature and affect the spleen, stomach, and liver meridians. They help produce bodily fluids, enrich blood, invigorate qi, and strengthen the spleen and stomach.

Individuals with abnormal sweating should be aware that sweating is not always a good thing. It could be a sign of yin imbalance in the body, which prevents the body from retaining fluids, and can also be accompanied by a dry mouth, dry tongue, and sore throat. To stop night sweats, it is essential to nourish the body. When the five zang organs are balanced, the body will naturally be able to retain fluids appropriately, allowing you to sleep soundly until morning.
