Women age faster.
The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine mentions that men and women have different growth cycles. For women, a cycle is 7 years, with bodily functions peaking at 28 years old, beginning to decline after 35, and menopause starting at 49.
For men, a cycle is 8 years, with the body being most robust at 32 years old, and menopause beginning at 64.
The Classic also states that for women, "at five sevens [35 years old], the Yangming meridians decline, the face begins to wrinkle, and hair begins to fall out." This means that after 35, the Yangming stomach meridian of the foot declines, leading to a yellowish complexion and brittle hair. Skin and hair growth and nourishment require nutrients; hair is a surplus of blood, and the spleen is the foundation of acquired essence, the source of qi and blood production.
When the spleen and stomach are not functioning well, the body will prioritize abandoning less important parts to protect the health of other organs, and the skin and hair are usually the first to show these effects.
