Fighting dryness

The weather was cold, and at night, fearing my son would catch a chill, I frequently got up to cover him with a blanket. Each time I did, due to the dry weather, a lot of static electricity was generated. It was the first time I saw static electricity sparks, flickering like tiny flashlights in the dark.

The dry weather persists. As the yang energy in winter recedes, the yin fluid (jinye) in the body also stores itself internally. When there isn't enough jinye to nourish the body, the body is prone to drying out from the inside. This dryness affects the entire body from the inside out, from the face, lips, hands, and feet skin, to even the hair. Many people also experience a dry throat externally, combined with a cold, leading to a dry cough.

To prevent dryness, it is essential to replenish the body's jinye. A simple remedy is to use 8g of Ophiopogon japonicus and 8g of lily bulb. After washing the ingredients, put them into a thermos cup, add hot water, and steep for 15 minutes before drinking. Those with a cold constitution can add two slices of ginger. This tea moisturizes and replenishes fluids, nourishing the body and skin.

Ophiopogon japonicus has a sweet taste and slightly cold nature, acting on the heart, lung, and stomach meridians. It benefits the stomach, generates fluid, nourishes yin, moisturizes the lungs, and improves dry throat and thirst. Lily bulb has a sweet taste and slightly cold nature, acting on the heart, lung, and stomach meridians. It moisturizes the lungs, relieves cough, clears the lungs, nourishes yin, calms the heart, and soothes bronchitis coughs.

To alleviate dry skin, remember not to use excessively hot water for bathing, as hot water removes the skin's natural protective oils. Use a shower gel free of preservatives and fragrances, and apply moisturizer after bathing. While the steam from bathing softens the skin, you can also gently rub off dead skin from your lips to prevent chapped lips.
