Bye-bye, Banban.

Whitening and blemish removal are concerns for many women, and sun protection products are constantly emerging. The most striking example is the viral photo of a "dama" (older woman) wearing a balaclava-style hood while swimming. I still remember traveling with friends in high school, and near dawn, we suddenly realized the curtains weren't fully closed, fearing we'd get freckles. We all woke up from our sleep to tightly close the curtains.

To remove blemishes, it's essential to first understand their causes. Western medicine believes that blemishes are mainly due to the accumulation of melanin caused by ultraviolet rays, genetics, or endocrine factors. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), on the other hand, attributes blemishes primarily to dysfunction of the liver, spleen, and kidneys, leading to stagnation of qi and blood. Once the body's qi and blood circulation is poor and stagnant, melanin easily accumulates, forming blemishes.

The liver stores blood and the kidneys store essence. To target blemishes, one should start by regulating and nourishing the liver and kidneys, and replenishing essence and blood. With sufficient essence and blood in the body, the internal endocrine system can be regulated. Then, strengthening the spleen helps with transportation and transformation, promoting metabolism and stimulating skin cell growth, thereby fundamentally improving skin texture and reducing melanin accumulation.

For a tea drink, you can use five peach blossoms, three red plum blossoms, and five roses. Steep them in hot water for ten minutes and then drink. This tea helps to promote blood circulation, dispel stasis, harmonize blood, relieve depression, and improve facial blemishes and dull complexion.

Peach blossoms are neutral in nature and bitter in taste. They have the effects of promoting blood circulation, dispelling stasis, and facilitating urination and bowel movements, which can improve blood circulation and blemishes caused by qi stagnation and blood stasis. However, it's important to note that peach blossoms have a laxative effect, so those with sensitive stomachs should use them with caution. Red plum blossoms are cold in nature and bitter in taste. They can balance endocrine functions, revitalize the skin, and whiten and remove blemishes. Roses are warm in nature and sweet in taste. They can regulate qi, relieve depression, regulate menstruation, activate blood, and nourish the skin.

In addition to thorough sun protection, maintaining a cheerful mood is also very important to prevent blemishes caused by liver depression. In terms of diet, consume more vitamin C and E; during the day, eat fewer photosensitive foods, such as celery, amaranth, and coriander.
