A tea drink to reduce the smell of old age

Many people use antiperspirants to avoid the embarrassment of sweat-soaked clothes and, more importantly, to prevent body odor. As we age and hormones change, after about 50, the body may develop a unique odor, commonly known as "old people smell."

Shiseido, a famous Japanese brand, began researching old people smell 20 years ago. They discovered that as body functions decline, female hormones decrease, and metabolism slows down, aging keratin and fatty acids secreted by sebaceous glands oxidize to produce 2-nonenal, which forms old people smell.

From a Chinese medicine perspective, abnormal liver and spleen function can lead to body odor due to the accumulation of toxins. It is recommended to use 5 grams each of lotus leaf and agastache, rinse them with water, and then steep them in a cup with hot water for 10 minutes before drinking.

This tea can nourish the liver, clear damp-heat from the spleen and stomach, and help improve old people smell.

Lotus leaf tastes bitter, is neutral in nature, and enters the heart, liver, and spleen meridians. It can clear summer heat and promote urination, tonify the liver and spleen, and raise clear yang.

Agastache tastes pungent, is warm in nature, and enters the spleen, stomach, and lung meridians. It has stomach-strengthening properties and can resolve dampness and release the exterior, making it essential for removing body odor.

Old people smell is not easy to remove and can linger on clothes. It is recommended to avoid strong-flavored foods and exercise more. More importantly, pay attention to exfoliation, especially cleaning the scalp, face, behind the ears, joints, and chest, which can help reduce the production of old people smell. There are also products on the market, such as antiperspirants, and laundry detergents specifically designed to remove old people smell. Research in the UK has also found that consuming blackcurrants significantly helps control old people smell, so it's worth a try.
