Spring Equinox: Timely Liver-Soothing

The vernal equinox has arrived, meaning equal day and night and the resurgence of yang energy. As a large amount of qi and blood spreads from the inside out, blockages can easily occur in the body. Insufficient liver blood and qi and blood stagnation can lead to various discomforts; excessive liver qi can easily trigger emotional reactions and exacerbate liver fire. Therefore, it is important to clear the liver in time to maintain yin-yang balance in the body. Common symptoms of excessive liver fire include:

1. "The liver stores blood and opens to the eyes." When liver fire is excessive, the eyes are the first to be affected, leading to dryness, swelling, pain, and blurred vision.

2. The liver governs free flow, and the condition of the liver affects emotions. People with excessive liver fire are prone to anger, emotional instability, and irritability.

3. Liver fire travels along the liver meridian, easily causing fever, flushed face and ears, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth and tongue.

4. Liver fire affects the blood storage function, which can easily lead to irregular menstruation, reduced menstrual flow, or even delayed periods.

5. Upward flaming of liver fire can easily cause symptoms of excitement, leading to insomnia and frequent waking.

To soothe the liver and regulate qi, you can prepare 5 grams each of rosebuds and silk tree flowers, rinse them with water, and steep them in hot water for 15 minutes before drinking. If you experience insomnia, you can add 10 grams of biota seeds and steep them together with the tea.

Roses are sweet and warm in nature, and enter the liver and spleen meridians. They can regulate qi and relieve stagnation, promote blood circulation and alleviate pain, nourish blood and qi, beautify skin, promote blood circulation, and balance endocrine. Silk tree flowers are sweet and neutral in nature, and enter the heart and liver meridians. They have the effect of harmonizing the mind, relieving depression, and calming the nerves. Biota seeds are sweet and neutral in nature, and enter the heart, spleen, liver, and gallbladder meridians. They have the effect of nourishing the heart and calming the nerves, and moistening the intestines to promote bowel movements.
