Hard to say

It is painful to suffer in silence and be unable to speak! A friend of mine previously suffered from pharyngitis, which initially caused hoarseness and eventually led to a complete loss of voice. Even after seeing a doctor, her voice did not significantly improve. Finally, she drank Pang Da Hai tea, and her condition eventually improved.

Aphonia, also known as "laryngeal aphonia" in Chinese medicine, means hoarseness. According to traditional Chinese medicine theory, sound originates in the lungs, passes through the throat, derives from the spleen, and is rooted in the kidneys. If there is a deficiency of yin in the lungs and kidneys, the throat may not receive enough fluid to nourish it, leading to aphonia. The kidneys govern the intake of qi, so if kidney qi is insufficient, the voice will not be loud enough.

To make the tea, steep three Pang Da Hai seeds and two slices of licorice in hot water for 10 minutes. This tea can clear the throat, relieve cough and phlegm, and moisturize the intestines for bowel movements. It is not suitable for individuals with a weak spleen and stomach, common colds due to wind-cold, diabetes, or low blood pressure. Due to the medicinal properties of Pang Da Hai, it is recommended to drink one cup daily when needed and to stop consumption once symptoms improve. Generally, it should not be consumed for more than 3 to 5 days.

Pang Da Hai: Sweet in taste, cold in nature, it acts on the lung and large intestine meridians. It is often used for symptoms such as hoarseness due to lung heat, sore throat, acute tonsillitis, and dry cough without phlegm. It can clear lung heat, benefit the throat, detoxify, and moisturize the intestines for bowel movements. Pang Da Hai are the seeds of a tree, dried and processed. They resemble olives and almonds in appearance, swell into a sponge-like consistency when soaked in water, and have little flavor, making them similar to drinking tea.

Licorice: Sweet in taste, neutral in nature; it acts on the heart, lung, spleen, and stomach meridians; it can clear heat and detoxify, resolve phlegm and relieve cough, invigorate the spleen and replenish qi, harmonize medicinal properties, and has anti-inflammatory effects that can protect inflamed throat mucous membranes.

To protect your voice, keep your neck, throat, and trachea warm, and reduce your intake of sweet, sour, spicy, and cold foods.
