Qi Deficiency and Blood Deficiency

We often hear Chinese medicine practitioners talk about "Qi deficiency" and "blood deficiency." Today, let's discuss tea remedies for both.

Qi deficiency is like a car with insufficient fuel – it starts with difficulty but lacks power. Those with Qi deficiency often feel fatigued and weak, lack vital energy, speak faintly, experience shortness of breath, asthma, and tend to sweat easily.

Individuals with Qi deficiency who wish to strengthen their physique can use 5 grams each of astragalus (Huang Qi) and codonopsis (Dang Shen). After washing, steep them in hot water for 15 minutes and drink. Astragalus is sweet and slightly warm in nature, entering the spleen and lung meridians. It can tonify Qi and raise Yang, strengthen the superficial defense and consolidate the exterior, and promote diuresis and reduce swelling. It enhances physical constitution and improves immunity, especially beneficial for those prone to colds and with weak constitutions. Codonopsis is sweet and neutral in nature, entering the spleen and lung meridians. It invigorates Qi, promotes fluid production, and nourishes blood, suitable for people of all constitutions. Codonopsis helps boost immunity, combat fatigue, and resist hypoxia.

Those with blood deficiency may have a pale or yellowish complexion lacking luster, pale lips, pale nails, and are prone to dizziness, blurred vision, insomnia, excessive dreaming, and have dry, yellow hair or hair loss. Both men and women can experience blood deficiency, but women are more susceptible to it due to menstruation.

To improve blood deficiency, you can use 15 mulberries and 5 pitted red dates. After washing, steep them in hot water for 15 minutes and drink. This tea helps nourish blood and is suitable for both men and women.

Mulberry is sweet and sour, cold in nature, entering the heart, liver, and kidney meridians. It can tonify blood and nourish Yin, promote fluid production and moisten dryness, and darken hair and brighten eyes. It is particularly effective for dizziness, tinnitus, palpitations, insomnia, and premature graying of hair and beard. Red dates are sweet and warm in nature, entering the spleen and stomach meridians. They can replenish insufficient Qi and blood, invigorate the spleen and stomach, nourish blood and calm the mind, accelerate blood circulation, and improve pale complexion.
