Beware of high blood pressure during Qingming

It's Qingming Festival again, and I see many people taking advantage of the weekend to visit ancestors' graves with family and friends. Qingming means "clear and bright sky and earth," and in ancient times, it was also called "Taqing Festival," meaning it's the most suitable time to go out and walk on the green grass.

After Qingming, rainfall relatively increases, and the weather becomes humid, which can easily trigger various chronic diseases. In the theory of Five Elements, spring belongs to wood, corresponding to the liver. The Qingming period is when liver qi is strong, and it's advisable to express it outwardly. Wood generates fire, and fire corresponds to the heart. If liver qi is stagnant and cannot be expressed at this time, and qi and blood circulation are not smooth, it can easily induce high blood pressure.

The most suitable tea for the Qingming Festival is made with five chrysanthemums, three slices of hawthorn, and ten grams of stir-fried cassia seeds. Rinse them clean, add hot water, and steep for 15 minutes before drinking. This tea can not only lower blood pressure and reduce inflammation but also clear fats, aid in weight loss, and help with bowel movements.

Chrysanthemum is slightly cold in nature, sweet and bitter in taste, and enters the liver and lung meridians. It can calm the liver and dispel wind, detoxify and reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and alleviate headaches. Chrysanthemums are mainly divided into yellow and white varieties; white chrysanthemums can clear the liver and improve vision, while yellow chrysanthemums can disperse wind and heat. Hawthorn is warm in nature, sour and sweet in taste, and enters the liver, spleen, and stomach meridians. It can lower blood pressure, reduce blood lipids, eliminate food stagnation, and strengthen the stomach. Stir-fried cassia seeds are sweet, bitter, and salty in taste, and slightly cold in nature. They enter the liver and large intestine meridians. They can lower blood pressure, clear the liver and improve vision, moisten the intestines and promote bowel movements, and reduce fat for weight loss. Cassia seeds come in raw and stir-fried forms; it is recommended to use stir-fried cassia seeds to reduce irritation to the stomach and intestines. Note: Individuals with low blood pressure and those prone to diarrhea should not consume this.

Although the sky is cloudy and there are occasional drizzles, don't let this restrict your activities. Go out more, vent any pent-up emotions, and prevent blood pressure from soaring.
