Having a beautiful New Year
Ready? Chinese New Year is in a week! Besides buying new year's goods and new clothes, I'm sure many of you will also be getting haircuts, dyeing your hair, and getting your nails done. As you'll be seeing many relatives and friends you only meet once a year, you'll naturally want to make a striking impression in the new year.
This week, I recommend using honey for beauty and wellness from the inside out. Honey is sweet and neutral in nature. It enters the Lung, Spleen, and Large Intestine meridians, and can invigorate the middle, relieve spasms, clear heat, detoxify, moisten the lungs to relieve cough, and lubricate the intestines for bowel movements. By simply combining honey with different ingredients, you can achieve various effects.
With three slices of lemon: boosts energy, enhances immunity, and beautifies the skin. With three slices of ginger: helps with bowel movements, makes skin smooth and tender, and long-term consumption can lighten dark spots. With five grams of goji berries: nourishes the liver and improves eyesight, tonifies the liver and kidneys, and moisturizes the lungs to replenish qi. With five grams of licorice: invigorates the spleen and replenishes qi, relieves cough and moistens the lungs, improves spleen and stomach function, and helps with the recovery of chronic gastritis.
Method: Rinse the ingredients, steep them in hot water for ten minutes, and add two tablespoons of honey when drinking. Hot water can destroy the effectiveness of honey; a water temperature of 60 degrees Celsius is most suitable.
Besides consumption, honey can also be used externally. For oily or combination skin, mix honey with egg white, apply to the face for ten minutes, then wash off. This helps balance oil and shrink pores. For dry skin, use honey with egg yolk to moisturize and increase skin elasticity. When washing hair, add honey to conditioner, wrap hair in a towel and leave for ten minutes, then wash off. This helps moisturize hair and increase smoothness.
Note: Since bees may carry botulinum spores back to the hive when collecting pollen, infants under one year old have immature intestinal function and immune systems and should not consume honey.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and good health!
