Autumn dryness can easily lead to dry eyes.

After autumn, the weather becomes relatively dry. In addition to causing dryness in the nose, throat, and skin, the occasional autumn wind can easily lead to dry or even painful eyes. There are many reasons for dry eyes. Besides the autumn dryness and frequent use of phones and computers, a poor liver can also affect the eyes.

The "Huangdi Neijing" (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states that there are five types of overstrain: "Prolonged gazing harms blood, prolonged lying harms qi, prolonged sitting harms flesh, prolonged standing harms bones, and prolonged walking harms sinews; these are the five strains that cause harm." "Prolonged gazing harms blood" means that prolonged use of the eyes not only causes eye fatigue and decreased vision but also leads to deficiency of yin blood in the body. Additionally, the liver stores blood and opens to the eyes; it is the source of blood and bodily fluids. A poor liver can affect the secretion of moisturizing fluid in the eyes, leading to dryness. Therefore, the liver, blood, and eyes are closely related.

To protect your eyes and nourish your liver, you can use 5 grams of chrysanthemum, 8 grams of goji berries, and 8 grams of ligustrum lucidum. Wash the ingredients and put them in a thermos, then add hot water and steep for 15 minutes before drinking. This tea is effective in relieving dry and tired eyes, nourishing liver blood, and improving vision.

Chrysanthemum, sweet and bitter in taste, slightly cold in nature, enters the lung and liver meridians; it can dispel wind and clear heat, detoxify and reduce swelling, soothe the liver and improve vision, and calm liver yang. A study in Taiwan once pointed out that drinking chrysanthemum for three consecutive weeks can effectively improve dry eye conditions. Ligustrum lucidum, sweet in taste, neutral in nature, enters the liver and kidney meridians; it can replenish qi and soothe the liver, nourish yin and benefit the kidneys, and enhance vision. Goji berries, sweet in taste, warm in nature, enter the liver and kidney meridians; they can strengthen the liver and kidneys, replenish essence and qi, clear liver heat, and improve vision.

In addition to internal consumption of herbal tea, external application can also be beneficial. Apply a hot towel to the eyes to increase eye temperature, stimulate tear glands and eye blood circulation, and relieve dry eyes.
