Winter Solstice after a cold front

It's been a long time since we've had such cold weather, but temperatures will warm up a bit. In a few days, it will be the Winter Solstice, the day with the shortest daylight and longest night of the year. From this day onward, the yang energy begins to rise, representing vitality. It also marks the beginning of the "Shu Jiu" period, a process of transitioning from winter to spring. Starting from the Winter Solstice, every nine days is a unit, and eighty-one days (nine nines) is "Shu Jiu," signifying the arrival of spring. The first three nines (27 days from the Winter Solstice) are the coldest days of the year. Many people take this opportunity to seek Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) moxibustion treatments to regulate their bodies and boost immunity. During the middle three nines (days 28-54), the weather begins to warm up, and everything renews. By the last three nines (days 55-81), it will be spring, and flowers will bloom.

"Nourish for one winter, and you'll be free from illness next year." By appropriately supplementing the body during this time when the body's yang energy is weakest, it can help the yang energy rise within the body, strengthen the constitution, and prepare for the coming year. The rising of yang energy in the human body originates from the kidneys. The kidneys store essence, which is the foundation of innate qi, so the focus of health preservation at this time is on nourishing the kidneys. You can simply use 5 grams of Cuscuta seeds and 5 grams of Goji berries. First, crush the Cuscuta seeds to help release their flavor, then steep them in hot water for 15 minutes before drinking. This tea can nourish liver blood, warm the kidneys, and invigorate yang.

Cuscuta seeds are sweet in taste, warm in nature, and enter the liver, kidney, and spleen meridians. They can tonify the kidneys and consolidate essence, nourish the liver and improve eyesight, and strengthen muscles and hair.

Goji berries are sweet in taste, neutral in nature, and enter the liver and kidney meridians. They can benefit essence and blood, nourish the liver and improve eyesight, replenish the liver and kidneys, and moisturize the lungs and tonify qi.
