To All Warmhearted Guys: The Agony of Menstrual Cramps
![]()
I was asked in an earlier interview if there was anything unexpected in my work, and I thought about it! Yes! There is one type of tea that is particularly popular with men, and that is the "Longan and Red Date Tea" that most women have drunk. That's right, there are many warmhearted men in Hong Kong!
Many women suffer from menstrual pain. In addition to simply drinking red date tea after menstruation, they can also drink different types of tea 3 to 5 days before menstruation, depending on the type of menstrual pain, to be prepared. Dysmenorrhea, also known as menstrual abdominal pain, refers to periodic lower abdominal pain or even severe pain and fainting during or around menstruation, mostly caused by qi stagnation, blood stasis, cold coagulation, or qi and blood deficiency leading to qi and blood not flowing smoothly.
Menstrual pain is mainly divided into four types:
1. Qi stagnation and blood stasis type: Lower abdominal distension and pain before or during menstruation, dark purple color with blood clots, irritability, headache, or breast distension and pain. This type requires promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis, regulating menstruation, and clearing menstruation. Hawthorn and rose tea can be brewed.
2. Cold and damp stagnation type: Lower abdominal cold pain before or during menstruation, severe gripping pain, scanty menstruation, dark color with blood clots. This type requires warming meridians to disperse cold, promoting blood circulation to relieve pain. Monthly rose and ginger slices with brown sugar can be tried.
3. Qi and blood deficiency type: Dull lower abdominal pain during or after menstruation, scanty menstruation, pale color, poor complexion, pale tongue. This type requires invigorating qi and nourishing blood, promoting blood circulation to relieve pain. Roselle and red date tea can be brewed.
4. Damp-heat and blood stasis type: Abdominal pain during menstruation, dark red menstrual blood with blood clots, distending pain in the lower back and sacrum, or low-grade fever. This type requires clearing heat and removing dampness, resolving blood stasis and relieving pain. Black fungus and red date tea can be brewed.
Note that it is not advisable to drink blood-activating teas during menstruation, and avoid alcohol, coffee, strong tea, and spicy and stimulating foods; remember to also avoid cold drinks. Only by warming the uterus to promote smooth qi and blood flow can you say goodbye to menstrual pain.
