The relationship between dry eyes and the liver

During school closures, many schools have adopted online learning. When I chat with parents, we all worry that our children will become bespectacled in two months. I've been nearsighted since I was young, and contact lenses have been with me for over 20 years. Fortunately, my optometrist says my eyes and tear secretion are very healthy. However, many friends around me suffer from dry eyes, experiencing dryness after just a few hours of wearing contact lenses. Some friends who have undergone vision correction surgery also experience severe dry eye problems.

There is a very close relationship between dry eyes and the liver, as the liver stores blood and opens into the eyes. The liver is the source of blood and bodily fluids. If the liver is not healthy, it will affect the eyes' secretion of lubricating fluid, leading to dryness and涩ness. Therefore, the liver, blood, and eyes are closely related. The "Jingzhe" (Awakening of Insects) solar term is in two days, which is a good time to nourish the liver. The weather will gradually become warmer, and all things will awaken, causing the liver's Yang energy to rise. We should pay attention to clearing heat, cooling blood, and boosting the body's immunity.

It is recommended to use three grams of chrysanthemum, two grams of mulberry leaves, two grams of honeysuckle, five to ten lotus plumules, five grams of goji berries, and one gram of bamboo leaves. Method: Wash all ingredients, then steep them in hot water for 15 minutes and it's ready to drink. This tea can clear the mind and reduce internal heat, calm an overactive liver, soothe the nerves and reduce irritability, nourish the liver and improve eyesight, and boost immunity. It is especially suitable for people who frequently stay up late working overtime, socialize a lot, smoke and drink, are prone to irritability, have difficulty sleeping, suffer from dry eyes, or have dry lips and throat.

If you want a simpler option, you can just steep cassia seeds in hot water. This can regulate immunity, improve liver and kidney Yin deficiency, clear the liver and brighten the eyes, lubricate the intestines and relieve constipation, reduce fat and aid weight loss, and lower blood pressure. Studies suggest that the substances in cassia seeds can nourish retinal nerve cells, helping to restore vision and lower intraocular pressure.

On Thursday, during Jingzhe, when you "beat the villain" to ward off bad luck, you can also soothe your liver and release emotions. Additionally, applying a hot towel to your eyes increases eye temperature, stimulates tear glands and eye blood circulation, which helps relieve dry eyes.
