Protect yourself from air pollution

For parents with young children, the most concerning news in recent weeks has undoubtedly been the flu situation. As we all know, to avoid infection, in addition to personal hygiene, it is also important to maintain good ventilation to prevent droplet transmission. However, looking out the window these past few days, it's as if a veil has covered everything, and with high humidity, the sky is a hazy grey, making it impossible to see clearly outside.

The "Huangdi Neijing" (The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine) states that "the lungs are the root of qi." As our most basic condition for survival, polluted air not only directly enters the lungs but also easily leads to an itchy throat, difficulty breathing, coughing, and even respiratory infections and the triggering of asthma.

To combat air pollution and strengthen your own defenses, it is recommended to buy fresh olives from the market. Take five, wash them, remove the pits, and slice them (or mash them with a spoon like you would for lemon tea). Add hot water and steep for 15 minutes, and it's ready to drink. If children find it too bitter, honey or rock sugar can be added for flavoring. Olives are neutral in nature, sweet and slightly sour in taste, and act on the lung and stomach meridians. The "Bencao Gangmu" (Compendium of Materia Medica) records: "Olives promote fluid production, quench thirst, and treat sore throats..." Olives can clear the lungs, benefit the throat, promote fluid production and quench thirst, stimulate appetite, regulate qi, and detoxify. They also contain various vitamins, can accelerate metabolism, and excrete toxins. Note: Individuals with a weak spleen and stomach should use with caution.

To protect the throat and moisten the lungs, you can also eat more white foods, such as lily bulbs, snow pears, longan, tremella, almonds, and peanuts. When going out, you can also wear a mask to enhance protection and block the inhalation of harmful substances.
