Traditional Chinese Medicine says: "Spring is for birth, summer for growth, autumn for harvest, and winter for storage." Spring is about "birth," so diet should follow the principle of gentle tonification, focusing on nourishing the liver and strengthening the spleen. The liver is the body's largest detoxification organ. In the Five Elements theory, the liver corresponds to spring energy. Sour flavors enter the liver, and sweet flavors enter the spleen. Too much sourness can make liver qi too strong, affecting the liver's ability to regulate and the spleen and stomach's transportation and transformation functions. In spring, it is advisable to nourish and regulate the liver, eat more sweet foods, and reduce sour and astringent foods.
